USDA Awards $30 Million for School Nutrition

Action for Health Kids will distribute the subgrants through the Food and Nutrition Service.

Action for Healthy Kids will distribute nearly $30 million in subgrants to 264 school districts across 44 states and the District of Columbia as part of the cooperative agreement to implement the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Healthy Meals Incentives Initiative. Provided by USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service, these funds are intended to enhance the nutritional quality of meals and modernize operations in small and rural schools. Each eligible school district will receive up to $150,000 to facilitate improvements—ranging from innovative staff training to kitchen upgrades and redesigning food preparation spaces.

“Students in every community deserve access to healthy and nutritious meals,” said USDA Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small. “Today’s announcement demonstrates the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to creating healthier, brighter futures for our children. With these funds, small and rural school districts will be able to modernize their operations and provide more nutritious meals, helping students succeed in the classroom and beyond.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Deputy Secretary Small as she helps to facilitate the Healthy Meals Incentives Initiative.
  • For Secretary Tom Vilsack to seek God’s direction as he leads the USDA.
  • For recipients of the funding to utilize it effectively for school meal programs for students.
